About Nerve Flossing
The nerves in our body are a common source for chronic pain and are responsible for limiting our range of motion, affecting our strength and sensation, and promoting an inflammatory state. Specifically, these are the nerves that branch away from the spinal cord and travel through various regions to our body, such as the arms or the legs.
Nerve flossing (nerve tensioning, neural gliding, neurodynamics, or neuromobilization) uses specific exercises developed by Dr. Haig Basmajian, a sports medicine chiropractor in California, to provide a safe and effective way to assess and treat the primary nerves that could potentially be responsible for chronic pain or inflammation.
You may benefit if you are dealing with consistent pain or residual symptoms following nerve and/or disc related injuries or if you experience numbness or tingling, weakness, shooting pain, limited range of motion and mobility, or recurring flare-ups. It may also help individuals who feel a constant low to medium level of inflammation due to an injury or other issue.
The nerve flossing concept works by restoring normal glide and mechanics of nerves through their pathways. With unique movements and gentle mobilizations, these techniques help release adhesions such as scar-tissue or other restrictions that may be impeding the normal elastic capabilities.
By gently “flossing” the nerves, individuals can promote better nerve health and reduce discomfort.
